Fenugreek Seeds Bart

E-mail Print PDF

Fenugreek Seeds are ideal for use in Indian dishes such as dhals, curries, pickles and chutneys.

Fenugreek Seeds, also known as methi, are small, round and hard. They give a tangy, bitter flavour, often described as being like burnt sugar. The aroma is strong and similar to that of maple syrup. The seeds are usually roasted before use to mellow the bitterness.

The Fenugreek plant is native to southern Europe and western Asia.

Fenugreek has a long history for use in both food and medicine. Ancient Egyptians used it to embalm their pharaohs, the Greeks and Romans also used it extensively.

Fenugreek Seeds are ideal for use in Indian curries, pickles and chutneys. They add a nice to flavour to some bland Indian vegetarian dishes, such as dhals.
