Clamato is a commercial drink made of reconstituted tomato juice concentrate and sugar, which is flavoured with spices and dried clam broth. The idea of mixing tomato juice with clam broth has emerged in Canada in 1969 at the hands of Water Chell when creating the Bloody Caesar cocktail. An idea was improved by the Californian company Mott’s, which, at the same time, launched a Clamato brand. The new drink quickly became an indispensable ingredient of Bloody Caesar.
