\u201cFrom afar, your hills with their gentle mists and the verdant plain smiling in the morning rain fill my heart with peace\u201d. This is the poetry of the Maremma, that composed by Giosu\u00e8 Carducci. The Maremma is a spell that charms you and bursts forth in skies of incandescent light. All of these sensations and emotions translate themselves into a wine called Rocca di Montemassi, which is made from international grapes of outstanding quality (Petit Verdot, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon), which become unique and inimitable, though, with the imprinting of the local Mediterranean broom, lapped by the sea. It is a red that combines forcefulness with elegance, and Etruscan hints with a modern, contemporary taste. It displays notes of black berry fruits and undergrowth, as well as the power of a Maremman horse and the gentleness of a landscape replete with atmosphere. Perfect with all meat, mushroom and true recipes, it is particularly delicious when accompanying the simple country cuisine of the Tuscan Maremma.
\nGRAPES: 40% Syrah, 40% Petit Verdot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon.
\nVINIFICATION AND AGEING: The grapes were harvested manually into boxes, selecting only the bunches that were perfectly ripe and healthy. The harvest was carried out at different times with Petit Verdot and Syrah grapes harvested from the 8th to the 17th of September, and Cabernet Sauvignon harvested from the 25th of September to the 10th of October. Vinification took place separately for each variety, in steel at controlled temperatures with 30 days of maceration. This was followed by malolactic fermentation immediately after drawing off. Maturation took place for 12 months in 350-liter tonneaux made from French oak used for the fi rst and second time.
\nTASTING DESCRIPTORS: Rocca di Montemassi is an intense, ruby red with vivid garnet reflections. The nose is complex and reveals cherry, plum, and currant with notes of violet, eucalyptus, vanilla, and sweet tobacco. The palate has a rich presence of elegant, fresh fruit with full and plush tannins, leading to a long and mineral-rich finish, showing spicy, toasted notes.
