Stroopwafel: A Dutch classic that is now a worldwide favorite!

Daelmans Stroopwafels is a Dutch family bakery that makes – you guessed it – Stroopwafels. It’s what they’re good at. And what they love doing. You only have to bite into a Daelmans Stroopwafel to experience why this Dutch classic is now a worldwide favorite.

The beginning of Daelmans.Ever since Hermanus Daelmans opened up his little family bakery in 1904, they’ve stayed true to his words: ‘When you indulge, do it right’. It’s our family’s well-kept tradition of honest, dedicated craftsmanship. It’s the quality ingredients you taste in every bite. And it’s why they believe that some things should just never change. Ever.

So, what’s the waffle? Well, let’s start with saying that words cannot describe what happens when you bite into a Daelmans Stroopwafel. We’ll give it a try nonetheless, as you’re already reading this text and may not have a Stroopwafel at hand!

Each and every Daelmans Stroopwafel is made of a delicious caramel syrup filling – ‘stroop’, as they say in Dutch – squeezed in between two thin layers of freshly baked dough. Stroopwafels are soft, fragrant and rich. Very, very, very, very, very rich. Each Stroopwafel is loaded with caramel that gets all mixed up and chewy once you bite into it. As it starts melting on your tongue, you’ll be carried along by a thick stream of lava-like stroop.

Don’t worry, this only takes a couple of seconds. After that, you’re back on earth and ready for your next bite. Experience the magic of stroop.

One more thing. You might have heard that the Dutch created land out of sea with feats of engineering. They also created Stroopwafels! Okay, so how do you get the most out of your Daelmans Stroopwafel? Our favorite way to thoroughly enjoy a Stroopwafel is to warm it up over a steaming hot cup of coffee or tea. It’s an old Dutch ritual called ‘Wake the wafel’, which only takes three steps:

The Daelmans Stroopwafels are great with tea and coffee:

  1. Rest a Stroopwafel on top of your hot cup of coffee or tea.
  2. Wait for about two minutes to allow the caramel to get all soft and melty.
  3. Your wafel is now awake. Go on then, bite into the gooey goodness!
