Empanadas are a kind of Argentinean pastry that can be baked or fried. They are prepared with delicious fillings ranging from savory to sweet: ground beef, cheese, vegetables, chicken, chocolate, dulce de leche, etc. The dough is stuffed, closed with a special technique called repulgue and then baked or fried.

Empanadas can be served hot or cold. Each region of Argentina has its own variety of empanadas, various pasta recipes, fillings and repulgues (the technique of closing the empanada). The name comes from the Spanish verb empanar, which literally means to envelop or wrap in dough.
